Puttinu Cares Good Friday Marathon 18^th April 2025 – Live on all TV stations from 9am – 3pm and from 9pm – midnight

 Twenty years ago, patients and their families who needed to travel to England for treatment had to find and pay for their own accommodation. This added to the hardship they were already going through. Puttinu Cares recognised this problem and felt the need to find a way to help in this situation. We started by helping children suffering from cancer, and over the years, Puttinu also extended its support to adults.

Today, between 60 and 90 patients travel to the UK EVERY MONTH, with the majority going to hospitals in central London. Renting an apartment in England costs thousands, especially if one has to stay for months or even years. Puttinu Cares already has 20 apartments near the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, and now we have invested in another project located just 10 minutes’ walk from Great Ormond Street Hospital, near Russell Square.

Puttinu believed that, since the Maltese and Gozitan people are generous and eager to help those who are sick, we needed to invest the donations wisely. We spent seven years searching intensively to find a property that is freehold, ensuring that the building remains property of the Maltese people forever. We registered the Puttinu Cares Foundation as a voluntary organisation in the UK so that we could save on VAT rates when paying for construction work. We worked tirelessly to apply for and obtain permission for an additional floor, so that we will have 29 apartments in central London, ready to accommodate patients and their families for free in their time of need.

We have every reason to be proud of our country’s beautiful culture because all of this was made possible through your donations. Even foreigners are amazed at the wisdom and generosity of our people. They cannot believe that patients are given free accommodation for as long as they need while undergoing treatment.

Sa għoxrin sena ilu, il-pazjenti flimkien mal-familjari tagħhom li kellhom bżonn isiefru għal kura fl-Ingilterra kellhom ifittxu u jħallsu għall-akkomodazzjoni tagħhom. Dan kien iżid mat-tbatija li kienu diġà għaddejjin minnha. Puttinu Cares mess ma’ din il- problema u ħass il-bżonn li jipprova jsib mezz kif jgħin f’din is-sitwazzjoni. Bdejna bit- tfal morda bil-kanċer, u matul is-snin, Puttinu fetaħ ukoll l-għajnuna għall-adulti.

Illum, bejn 60 u 90 pazjent jivvjaġġaw KULL XAHAR, bil-maġġoranza tagħhom imorru fl-isptarijiet fiċ-ċentru ta’ Londra. Biex tikri appartament fl-Ingilterra trid tħallas eluf kbar, speċjalment jekk ikollok iddum xhur jew saħansitra snin. Puttinu Cares għandu diga ghandu 20 appartment ħdejn l-isptar Royal Marsden Hospital f’Sutton, u issa investejna f’proġett ieħor li jinsab biss 10 minuti mixi ’l bogħod minn Great Ormond Street Hospital, ħdejn Russell Square.

Puttinu ħass li, billi l-poplu Malti u Għawdxi huwa ġeneruż u jħobb jgħin lill-marid, ridna li d-donazzjonijiet jiġu investiti b’għaqal. Għamilna seba’ snin ta’ tfittxija intensiva biex insibu proprjetà li hija bla ċens, sabiex il-binja tibqa’ tal-poplu Malti għal dejjem. Irreġistrajna l-Fondazzjoni Puttinu Cares bħala għaqda volontarja fl-Ingilterra biex inkunu nistgħu niffrankaw mir-rati tal-VAT fuq il-ħlasijiet tax-xogħlijiet tal-kostruzzjoni. Ħdimna bis-sħiħ biex napplikaw u niksbu permess għal sular ieħor, sabiex b’hekk ikollna 29 appartament fiċ-ċentru ta’ Londra, lesti jilqgħu b’xejn lill-pazjenti u lill- familjari tagħhom fil-mument tal-bżonn. Għandna għalfejn verament niftaħru bil-kultura sabiħa ta’ pajjiżna, għax dan kollu sar bid-donazzjonijiet tagħkom, tant li anke l-barranin jistagħġbu bl-għaqal u l-qalb ġeneruża ta’ dan il-poplu. Ma jemmnux li l-pazjenti jingħataw appartament b’xejn, idumu kemm idumu jieħdu l-kura.
