Puttinu Challenge For a Smile

For 3 consecutive years the Challenge for a Smile was organised in aid for Puttinu Cares Children's Cancer Foundation at Rainbow Ward in Mater Dei Hospital, being held always on the 8th of December.

The start of this event starts at 7.00am and it is hoped that by 5.00 pm the athletes will be back. Around 100 athletes take part in this event. The challenge will include. Cycling from Al Fresco in B`bugia to Cirkewwa pasing by Ghaxaq, Luqa, Qormi, Zebbug, to Mgarr, down to San Martin, up to Mellieha, Ghadira, and finally reaching Cirkewwa.

Then a ferry is taken to Mgarr in Gozo. Here some of the athletes will swim to Hondoq ir-Rummien Bay while the rest will cycle all the way to Hondoq. After a small break, from Hondoq the athletes will all run to Victoria and back. Than all together they will cycle all the way back to Birzebbugia.

This event is not a competition and the aim is to take fun although the 8th December can present with harsh weather which can interfere with the marathon, making it more complicated. Nevertheless the athletes never let any thing from discouraging their motivation cause after all that’s why it is called a Challenge for a Smile

Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Foundation would like to thank event organizers Mr. Raymond Borg, Mr. Mark Bugeja, and Mr. Micheal Gellel, and all the Athletes, Helpers, and families for all the help.
